A week of competitions...

This was one of those weeks where you wish you could clone yourself. Youngest and I traveled to the state special Olympics games with our team where he competed in the turbo javelin, 500m cycling and 10k cycling events as well as a 50 yard dash. He walked away with a 2 gold, a silver and a bronze. After he finished a cycling event, he looked at me and said "I'm proud of myself." If you've never gotten to experience Special Olympic games, I would highly encourage you to do so. The happiness these athletes have for what they do is contagious. You'll be hooked.

While we were there, Honey accompanied oldest to the International science fair competition in Pittsburgh, PA where oldest won a spot to compete. Oldest was among 1500 high school competitors from 68 countries. These young scientists were touted on and enjoyed immensely their experiences from the week. Though he did not place at this event, and was thrilled to win the opportunity to attend and participate. Special thanks to the teachers, neighbors and all who supported him in this process. This was only phase 2 of his project, so we are looking forward to seeing what he discovers during the next year. His goal is to find a crop that a farmer can sell more than once. He selected flax seed. Phase 1 last year was utilizing flax pellets and comparing with wood pellets to see which burned hotter. This year he made bio diesel out of flax seed. Phase 3 will including making products from the glycerol,a bio diesel biproduct and also complete an environmental study.
