...off the back porch.
(barley)
What an amazing day, especially if you are two teenage boys who LOVE everything about farming!! The crew showed up about quarter to ten this morning and after putting the header on the combine, they were off. Boys went to early mass, so as not to miss any of the excitement. I went to our regular (a later) mass, to farewell a long-time family of the parish. As I was coming home, I had to pull over into a driveway to allow the semi-grain truck to get down the narrow road. As it passed me the horn was blaring on the truck and honey and youngest were waving wildly- taking a ride to unload the truck.
A little while later honey called to say where they were (at the farmer's unloading the barley (Remember that we leased our farm ground for the first 3 years we are here. This marks year 2.) He told me that oldest son was out in the field. A bit later oldest called and he had been put in charge of the tractor and grain cart and said he'd be by later to pick up his younger brother and take him for a ride later.
By this time the semi truck boys were back and youngest and I headed out to take some photos because they were combining fairly close to the house. Farmer stopped and waved Jordan over, where they took off combining for the next few hours. Honey went out to try and get Jordan to come in for dinner and he told his dad he wasn't ready to get out, so off they went for more. Oldest son decided he was going to stay and have dinner with the farm crew and continued to harvest until dark.
A very exciting day for both boys. I'm sure they'll have good dreams tonight and sleep well. Wonder how much convincing they will try in the morning to stay home and help them finish farming.
Thanks farmer for letting the boys help out!!
Oldest is driving the John Deere and grain cart, youngest is out for a ride in the combine.
