"the lazy days of summer"

Whoever coined that phrase doesn't live on a farm! There's always something to do. The boys have been busy picking rocks (we have LOTS of those), removing a few drinkers from around the sheep barn, cleaning up things, organizing and fixing on equipment. The boys are getting the know the mechanics of the backhoe quite well, unfortunately! The boys mowed this week, first time in almost a month. Yes, we are quite dry, fire danger is very high. One day this week, it was tough to be outside due to a fire about 25 miles north of here, about 1,000 acres burned- no damage to buildings, equipment or people, thank goodness! They are finishing up combining winter wheat around here and we are getting fires in fields started by the hot equipment. We have another week or two before they start cutting the spring wheat. Mid September they will likely start cutting the barley.

We took a little break last week and went to visit honey's sister and boys before they made a big move further away from us. It was our first visit to that state and a very fun time was had by all. So love spending time with family and friends!

Anticipating more family this week and can't wait!!

Garden gave us lots of zucchini last week and shared with lots of folks. Do you have a good zucchini recipe? I think we will be needing them! The tomatoes seem to be disappearing, a raccoon is suspected....we'll have to figure that out. I'd really love to have tomatoes- am out of salsa, canned tomatoes and need more spaghetti sauce and tomatoes are a must for those, huh.

Our neighbor talked us into a 20 lb box of cherries, so we had a "pitting" party the other morning and we canned a batch of cherries. I so love summer fruits! Cucumbers are starting to gear up and are full of blooms.

The boys caught this lovely treasure this past week. Can you identify it?

We've got a busy week with company, honey is doing a special olympics training on this next weekend which is also our family birthday-17th! The kitties are getting fixed on the weekend as well, which will be a job in itself. School starts here the following week. I'm sure its busy at your house as well.

Hoping you are enjoying your last few "lazy days of summer!"
